Consumer Information Obligation

Why Should You Recycle?

Packaging materials account for around 10 million tonnes of waste generated in the UK each year. More than 50% of this waste is found in the bins emptied by your local council.

UK Businesses also generate a large amount of this waste packaging. Although most could be recycled a large amount still goes to landfill where it is buried in the ground - a loss of a valuable resource.

UK businesses who handle over 50 tonnes of packaging and turnover more than £2 million are required by law to recover a proportion of the packaging they provide around their products.

To help UK businesses meet their target it is important that all consumers recycle as much packaging as possible, where possible. Packaging includes cardboard boxes, plastic bottles, steel and aluminium cans and glass bottles.

More and more councils and local authorities provide kerbside collection and / or bring sites. Civic Amenity sites also often provide recycling facilities for the householder.

The Consumer Information Obligation has been created to provide information to householders about what and how they can get involved in recycling.
There is information on where to find recycling banks, links to organisations that provide useful information and answers the questions on what recycling symbols mean.
If you require further information on recycling, would like to provide other links or have any comments please email us at info@fdtodd.co.uk.
